Welcome to the Professional Standards Committee page!

Your Professional Standards Committee will:

  • Address problems of a professional or ethical nature involving pilots.
  • Resolve cases of pilot misconduct that may affect flight deck safety and/or professionalism
  • Resolve conflicts between pilots that may affect flight deck safety and/or professionalism
  • Resolve conflicts between a pilot and a member of another employee group, or another individual, that may affect flight deck safety and/or professionalism.
  • Resolve conflicts arising out of conduct perceived as reflecting unfavorably upon the profession. The Professional Standards Committee will not, however, take any action in disputes of a political nature within the pilot group or within ALPA.
  • Promote the highest standards of professional conduct through regular communication with the pilot group.

Examples of situations that ARE handled by the Professional Standards Committee:

  • Flight deck managerial style (CRM)
  • Personality conflict
  • Non adherence to standard operating procedures
  • Crew coordination issues
  • Sexual harassment (within guidelines that we'll inform you of)

Examples of situations that ARE NOT handled by Professional Standards include:

  • FAA enforcement/violation cases
  • Grievance matters
  • Substance abuse problems
  • Medically related issues
  • Legal issues
  • Proficiency situations

We'd like to emphasize that we are not the "hat and shoe shine police" or "pilot morals" committee.

OUR GUARANTEE TO YOU

If you find that you need to call us for any reason you can be assured of three things:

1. Confidentiality.

This is a two way street and we require that all matters remain in strict confidence between the involved parties as this protects the integrity of the committee and the individuals involved.

2. Neutrality.

As a committee member we are not here to pass judgement in terms of guilt or innocence on an individual. Instead, we attempt to determine what happened in an individual case by hearing both sides of the story and help those involved arrive at a mutually agreeable solution. We do not take sides.

3. Written Records

There are none. Nuff said...almost. This extends to email regarding cases, so if it's necessary to get a hold of us through email, simply state who you are with a phone contact and we'll get back to you ASAP. Again, please do not include any details about why you are contacting us, save it for the phone conversation as this protects everyone involved.

Our goal is to solve problems at the lowest level possible and to date our success rate is near 100%. I hope this provides some insight into our committee. Fly safe, and we'll see you on the line!
